Paul, does the Mexican suggested to split  Agave look like it has traction?

it seems to have been adopted by academics but, as usual, is being largely ignored by the gardening world. It actually makes far more sense to me than the manfreda/polianthes nonsense but I suppose eventually it will all stick. It is hard to argue against the DNA studies, even using the evidence of your eyes.

I don't know the plants under discussion well enough to have a 'feel' for it.

I look forward to all the Polianthes/Manfreda/Prochnyanthes getting new names before I've learnt the current ones as Agave!

I thought the four Mangave would satisfy me. Then I was given some more that had a lot of pups which I split off. Then a local nursery was torturing some in a dark place and left standing in water. Two were rescued and on de-potting were found to have no roots. They now have roots coming out of the bottom of their new pots; they are not slow.

They had been allocated one tray in the tunnel, but now occupy three.



And what is worse, I now have a hankering for Agave albopilosa and victoriae-reginae.

But I would also like some bench space back!

My last Agave albopilosa went to your neck of the woods Chad, the gardens on St Michael’s Mount. Agave v-r is a handsome plant. I’ve still got a few left but they are all the v word! To be serious, and whatever one thinks of variegated plants, White Rhino is a very striking thing.

Clerodendrum bungei 'Pink Diamond' was bought as a plug. It too will be planted out in the spring, liberating a pot space on the bench.

It’s a lovely shrub. Got mine from the Duchy years ago and it has travelled with me. HOWEVER!!!! It is sending up suckers of the straight species all over the place and they seem to be on steroids, towering above the original plant. I’m guessing this is because I damage the roots when I’m tatting about around it. I’ve found it bone hardy, even up here.
