Musa sikkimensis

I have been growing this banana for a good twenty years and never produced a flower until now. In my old garden, although root hardy with a mulch, the stems would be cut to the ground by the winter cold so not really surprising that they never flowered.
I brought a pup with me six years ago to my Cornwall garden and planted it close to the house in the spring of 2019 where the stems stay firm through the winters and get going again each spring. The clump has now about 10 stems some of which are over 3M tall. I hads given up hope of finding a flower on any of the stems this year until I spotted this on the ground below



I had to get the step ladder out to cut down some of the leaves before I found the flower



I'm feeling rather pleased with myself as I've only ever once seen a M. sikkimensis flower and that was on one of Neil's huge specimens at Tremenheere.

Yes you should be justifiably pleased Andy. It’s amazing what can be grown down there.
