Autumn colour

That is really bright! I ordered a few bits from Jurassic plants over the weekend and they have this, so I have just emailed them to see if I can add it to the order.

Amsonia hubrichtii is surprisingly hard to find and I have joined 3 queues. In the meantime, I spotted an Ebay seller listing it.
£12.00 isn't a huge loss, but this is what arrived :lol:




The various insects were a no cost extra :?
I should be more patient and stick to nurseries I can trust.

Paul, did you find any Autumn/Winter leafy Epimedium?
I thought I had x rubrum in the garden, but it never coloured up and faded away, I am not sure it was the real thing.
Looking for a replacement x rubrum 'Galadriel' looks rather nice as does E. pinnatum subsp. colchicum 'Thunderbolt', have you tried either of these?

John, Woodham's Plants list it as in stock at £8.00 for a 2lr pot. It can be, as you suggest, very hit and miss on Ebay and it's not just the sellers. I sold quite a few rare agaves and always packaged them up immaculately. Indeed I often went over the top due to the high plant costs involved. I had one lady contact me for a refund who had sent a photo of her kitchen work surface absolutely covered with compost which apparently came from the tiny 7cm pot my agave was sent in. I pointed out to her that the compost the plant was sent in was nothing like that on her photo, mine being 75% grit, not to mention the volume she claimed caused such a mess in her kitchen. She dropped the claim but there are some unscrupulous sellers and buyers. What you were sent is pathetic and I would certainly leave negative feedback but it looks like the roots are healthy and signs of a new shoot? May take a while to make a decent plant so I'd be tempted to look into the Woodham's plant.

I haven't looked yet. There is a national collection holder with a nursery not too far away; I'll visit soon.

Thanks Martin, I can't work out Woodhams delivery policy, do they only supply plants by the pallet load, or am I looking at the wrong site?

I think you're right John although it does say you can ring them and they are sure they can come up with a solution. I have to say though that I think £45 (£35 if you spend more) for delivery of a pallet is quite good if anyone wanted a bulk load of plants ... though I'm sure you don't want 30 x Amsonia!!!

One of my personal favorites for dry, sunny spots is Salvia greggii the autumn blooms are such a delight, and it’s both tough and colorful. For something with a bit of texture and structure, Artemisia ‘Powis Castle’ could work well. Its silvery foliage contrasts beautifully with fiery shades and adds that soft, exotic look.
