Last Sunday we went up to the European Palm societies get together at Wisley, Matt the curator gave us a quick guided tour in the morning and left us to do our own thing after lunch. really good day met up with loads of people I know from the forums etc.
Very impressed with the new buildings and with most of the work in the gardens, especially the area they call the Dell up Battleston Hill. less impressed with the plant centre which had been good (if expensive) plants wrongly labled weedy dry (and still expensive!)
Here Matt is discovering what its like to herd cats as he takes us into the big greenhouse
Charlie it was good to meet up with so many friends from past meets and also to see face to face some new faces.
I really enjoyed the day but my planned re-visit to the greenhouse to see amongst other things the fabulous display of the jade Vine failed as when I got to the door it was just closing!! (at 3.30).
Like you, I was impressed by all the exotic plantings outside and had not realised the amount and variety of said plantings around the Battlestone Hill/old trial area.
Matt is doing a good job with pushing forward the exotic and palm plantings at the garden.
I have been trying to get hold of this from Roy Lancaster ever since he told me about it when he was here - so far no luck so anyone that gets lucky don't forget me!! The growth rate is just silly
There is a plant sprawling over the top of an old broken down conservatory in the far left hand corner (away from the entrance) of Fox Rosehill gardens that I have been meaning to ask you guys to identify. I think it may be Lonicera calcarata?????????. Check it out if you are going on Friday, if not maybe Chad will do the honours.

What is the plant in your picture 114310?
It has been the subject of some controversy.
It was originally thought to be a form of Schefflera delavayi that was maintaining its juvenile type foliage.
I think the consensus now is that it is Schefflera trevesioides, although the leaf is the right shape for that, my trevesioides from Crug doesn't have such thick or glossy leaves.
Thought it was a Schefflera but can't remember what the label said - sorry
I think I may be indulging in wishful thinking that we can make Falmouth but its in the diary and we are going to try, Liz has baking to do. Pictures of the mystery plant please :)
My late buddy Tim had one like this in his garden, bought as delavayi but something else, and I was given a name for it. Can I find it? No. I've asked Remko - he had the name and also has a functioning brain.
