Don't laugh! I want to show you my first Sweet Pea

Ok - so they're not rocket science to grow, but I absolutely love this one! Small blooms of 20mm or so, a small plant overall at about 1.5/2metres, but Lathyrus sativus azureus should be seen more in my opinion. So I was chuffed to find the first bloom on it in the greenhouse the other day..................


Seems to need somewhat better summers than last year to do well. Here's a shot from a couple of years ago............

I'm slowly building up a small collection of Fabaceae. Just about to get my first ever Clianthus blooms. From seed, there is Sesbania, more Clianthus, Sophora, Dorycnium, an unknown from Tanzania (possibly one of the Cassia/Senna), Erythrina and Sutherlandia.

If you feel that you could use/like this, remind me later in the season and I'll gladly forward you some seed.

Well, you might think so, I have never managed a good show with them. I tried for several years when I had an allotment but I couldn't produce anything that I could be proud of.
The traditional way of growing them up bean sticks doesn't do anything for me. Have you grown them through other plants with any success?

Not yet. At my old house I used to grow them up garden twine against the garage wall which was quite effective.............


Bit of a wash out last year (the first summer here), but I'm trying again up the Honeysuckle that grows into an old apple tree.

I've tried several times over the years, more often than not they turn out ratty. Might try again next year growing them up through some shrubs
