This winters project

Although in summer some of my boundaries do look rather lovely, it is almost impossible to keep them that way

You can see by winter that the under lying wall has long since collapsed to a sort of heap with bramble growing out of it

Its been a long held dream to sort the area out so we can grow more there, so when the neighbour agreed to allow the mess and disruption we decided to start before he changed his mind

Unfortunately these jobs always seem a good idea until you start then it just seems to get worse

The rule is times the existing volume by three at least to work out how much you will have to dispose of. I was caught out rather badly by not knowing that!

How are you disposing of it? Around here the local authority charge all commercial vehicles (including small vans) at the tip, although they do issue an annual three free visits pass for personal waste. However, if you hire a van (as opposed to having one on a lease) it's free as many times as you want! They need the copy of the hire agreement. Worth checking out maybe?

Here its free to cars, but vans need a permit (which we have) and you get 12 goes per year, not unreasonable we can take about a ton and we are quite close to the dump. Son has a bigger van but has a waste carriers licence so is not allowed on the council site at all and must pay per ton. up till now we have coped by reusing the stone for the wall building, using the stony crap for the fill and the sifted soil then goes in various locations around the garden, there then follows about 2 years of weed problems! but so far not had to resort to dumping anything.

Another good project. I loved seeing the wall re0build one, so looking forward to seeing what comes of this.

We have just started work on extension here, and got back after work on first day to find the whole front garden piled high with dirt from foundations, and whole back garden covered with builders materials. A good job there is nothing at all planted and I was going to rip it all out anyway.

These projects need time. In 2005 whilst doing the house extension, I planned to take down the cherry tree, build a new storage shed there and put in an irrigation system. I really must get round to taking down the cherry tree :(

At the moment I am almost looking forward to the wet horrible days so I can stay inside so hard has been the effort of removing the old hedge - definitely getting older!

At least we now have the foundations in place, and should be able to get the chicken house roof back on soon as well (which gets all the roofing sheets out of our way)
