Dream Conservatory?

Post by charlie »

Was going through images putting together for an upcoming talk to a local garden group and I came across these from Aberglasney in Wales.Basically a big old house that they have put a glass roof on, brilliant, I love the big conservatory at Tregrehan but this had so much height and interesting nooks and crannies. am I the only one to dream the impossible dream! (how many of us have a spare derelict house on our propeties :)

Anyone else spotted a really well done conservatory? I see so many summer rooms but few planted spaces

Going to be rather hard to top that one Charlie!!!
It's rather awesome to say the least.
I dream a lot, especially about what I would grow in mine.

Interesting to see that garden again Charlie, it been a few years since I went, It had not got the roof on when I was there, but that part alone was worth the entrance money. The rest of the garden whilst very well done is a bit too formal for my taste. Some of you may remember the TV series they did about it when the garden was being unearthed.
Talking of dream conservatories only a mile or two down the road is the Welsh Botanical Garden, a bit like a minnie Eaden, also worth a visit if you are that way. Finally to complete a trio, in Monmouthshire is Dewstow Gardens which is an underground garden filled with plants a bit like a flowery, ferny grotto, this is also a must see, if you are in that part of Wales, very unusual. You can also have a game of golf next door. ;)

What a great place, love those Treeferns.

Keith wants to build a fernery by digging down so it's partly underground, then put a roof on it, but that's a project for the future

Ours is full of plants this time of the year, some of them are to big to store anywhere else.

A fernery would be brilliant, not sure if you look in on GOTE? but someone used to post from Edinburgh on a restored victorian one, http://www.growingontheedge.net/viewtop ... it=fernery certainly make a good use for abandoned swimming pools such as my Mother has (presently boarded over)

I shall wait until it looks like a wall before any more pictures!

That first one is stunning. Maybe instead of pulling down my old garage I should just take the roof, take off some side panels and add a glass roof.
