Storm damage!

Post by charlie »

Well as storms go it wasn't so bad I thought but Tuesday night we were all awoken by a tremendous crash.
The culprit was a large section of cast iron guttering

Now I must admit that this has been on my "To do List" for some while, the main snag being when to get the scaffolding up as the corner of the house has a bees nest in it, this has been there over 100 years now and is probably partly to blame for the lack of maintenance!

Of course if something falls it generally lands on something, in this case it was my conservatory

amazingly small amount of damage

I managed to effect temporary repairs using some spare greenhouse glass and silicon it it can now wait for next August for the planned rebuild like we did the other end a few years ago (I had been waiting to sort the gutter problem!!)
I put a series of pictures of that rebuild on a thread here

Thats the only problem with houses. As they get older, bits start falling off!
Anyway, it's only guttering. No one got injured and it's not as if you need it down there in Cornwall :?

I think the family were somewhat surprised by my cheerful reaction, I had expected it to be a pig of a job to get that section down because of the bees, and it only took 20 mins to replace the broken glass

Its the only snag with a large conservatory, it makes scaffolding up for roof and gutter repairs a pain (but I can at least paint upstairs with out a ladder)

and you are not wrong about bits falling off, and its not just houses, their owners suffer similar problems as they age ;) :)
