I have just heard the news that Paul Higginson had passed away last sat(8th june) from a heart attack. Paul was well known for his impressive spikie collection that took pride of place under his massive greenhouse that was split into many zones.
Some of you would have met paul at the meets ( usually Akamba and CGFs) he was a fountain of knowledge when it came to his spikies and he would be able to ID plants and tell you the best way to grow them. Rest in peace mate you will be missed.

Re: Sad Loss
As most people never got to visit Pauls, or may not have seen a larger succulent collection I thought I would post a few photos of his greenhouse.
When you walk in this is the the cold section

Notice the agave in flower in the corner.

There is also this massive cycad that he rescued.

This section is pretty much unheated which is pretty impressive given his low last winter was -16
you then walk through into the bench section which is partially heated and has two large heat sinks.

most of the plants were on tables by group, almost all the plants are agaves, this table is full of the closely related manfredas

manfredas
There are two 8x6 greenhouses at the very back which are heated and contain the small plants, next to them is a potting and prop area. I think overall the greenhouse is about 24 wide x 40 deep.

Re: Sad Loss
I don't think I ever met Paul but have read many of his posts on other forums. A man with a great knowledge of his subject and obviously dedicated to his plant collection.
RIP Paul.
