PUSHING THE BORDERS

Does anybody grow this and know roughly when it tends to make an appearance? Pretty much all of my hardy hebaceous stuff is showing some form of movement now but this plant, which I purchased last year has yet to show any signs.

I always worry about new plants after thier first winter. I know it's very hardy but there are probably other factors like unsuitable soil ph and moisure levels that can affect a plants ability to settle in it's first season.

I also worried about my Peonia lutea var Ludlowii, especially when it suddenly and dramatically reduced to a stick quite early in the autumn, but that producing lots of new foliage again now.

It's a late season flowering plant and as such there is no sign of mine making an appearance yet. Seems to do very well in shade .

I seem to remember seeing it at the Rosemoor plant sale in September but don't recall any sign of it at the April sale, not time to panic yet! Question to self "Why haven't I got one here?"

Hi Don, Good to hear from you. Yours would probably be later to emerge up there in the cold north anyway.

Charlie, yes it's a shame you don't have one since yours would surely be first to emerge. Anyone else from the Cornwall contingency growing it?

I had this for a couple of years but it never really got going. It was in full shade in dryish soil near a clump of bamboo, so probably not the best spot and it failed to make a reappearance in spring 2012 which was very dry before the monsoon. The couple of years I had it I do recall rooting around to see where it was as it did seem to make a very late show out of the ground

I put some in last year and they aren't stirring yet.

I have a feeling that after I had seen it looking fab at Rosemoor I nearly bought one off one of the other sellers but they said it was a target for slugs and snails which is why I decided it would be best not fed to them here!

I had a poke around the area where I had planted this and to my surprise it is still there. Must be the molluscs that do for it so I will make an effort to get this going and then move it.

Mine haven't shown yet but they did put on a good show last summer. The old crowns are quite a way above the soil level now, should they be replanted deeper?
