Starting to want to go around and look at the garden again, weather has been lovely so I thought I would start a thread for all those things that catch your eye. Here are a few here in April

I am puzzled by the lack of scent on this Stautonia, any one know whether if the name is correct and whether it should be scented?

Last time we had a spring like this it rained all summer; I'm enjoying it while I can!

Dicentra 007 is [keep up at the back] Lamprocapnos spectabilis 'Alba'.

Sorry!

Chad.

Yes I am sorry about the Dicentra labels but I was in a hurry and couldn't remember what the new name was! I am with you, still in shorts and pretending its summer (might indeed be all we get!!)

I assume that every summer will be lousy. I'm never let down and if we ever get a good one it will be a bonus.

How hardy are the vines Charlie?

On a wall not too bad, both are more sensitive to cold than Holboellia coriacea. biggest danger is the emerging flower buds so its spring frosts rather than winter cold thats the problem. If you can play bee the fruits are an added bonus, don't often get a good set unless I intervene.

One of my favourite winter/spring jasmines is jasminum dispermum, surprising tough its survived here outside year after year, sadly all to no avail as it wont flower! so it lives under cold glass.

Nice to see a few things bouncing back after the recent stormy weather

If the wind would only abate for a while the scent would be wonderful!

If ever proof were needed that Botanist should not be allowed to name plants this is it! Scilla peruviana

Some good old garden stalwarts

Geranium palmatum is a good short lived perennial here, and a lot better looking here than on Madeira where you see it at altitude looking somewhat scruffy, I suspect that has more to do with the timing of my visits rather than the plant!

This shrubby Teucrium seems to be in flower all year, its a shame the deeper coloured form is a lot less robust
