Winter Fun With Clerodendrum Ugandense

Post by LONGK »

Clerodendrum ugandense is one of the favourite plants that I have and also very rewarding. Admittedly it does get a little straggly, but it is such a strong bloomer. Every year I allow it to take a couple of light frosts before bringing it back indoors. Positioned between the wood burner and the window it drops all the foliage that has been killed and then bursts back into growth. In a few weeks it is back in bloom...........................

That is just a small percentage of the buds on this heat lover!

More pics as I love it..............

It does get a little leggy here but I just use this growth as cutting material.

I agree, wonderful plant, I first saw it on holiday at Bicton in the restored Palm house, later managed to get hold of a plant from Rob Senior (local plant legend) who was growing it outside, I have never come close!

I am considering planting the mother plant out next summer, not because I expect it survive but because it is getting too big now to come indoors.

I've just ordered these seeds as a bit of an experiment.....................

Be interesting to hear whether the amount of flower justifies growing it, I can see why you wanted to try, flowers look amazing
