Don't They Know That It's January!

Post by LONGK »

This mild weather is playing havoc here. Despite a few frosts I still have Salvia in bloom outdoors.
S.elegans (thought that the frost had got this one before christmas, but here it is in bud again....................

This one in the greenhouse (unheated) was just a cutting in September................

I'm sure that you're all familiar with the story of Wendys Wish, but for an unplanned hybrid it's one hell of a resilient plant. It's in a sheltered spot, but nonetheless is doing really well....................

Best of all, S.discolor is blooming well in the greenhouse................

Also in the greenhouse is this wee cutting of F.microphylla in bloom...............

Outdoors, Fuchsia perscandens is budding up nicely. I have buds on several other Fuchsia, including Korralle which is one of the Triphylla group.

The winter has to bite back sometime surely?

I know what you mean, it feels like we are riding our luck, and you can see from the states how quickly things can change

The formation of the Arctic ice further south sooner this year may have helped to restore the gulf stream for this winter which will hopefully protect us from the hell that the States is suffering. It's even affecting Florida where it's a race against time to get the citrus crops in before the cold weather hits them.
