It's offset time

Post by Chrisg »

It is one of the best times of year for succulent growers, the plants are looking great after lets face it the first actual summer in a while an to show it they are offsetting. The summer has made a big difference and I have many firsts. Apart from the echeveria agavoides ebony from the other thread, the top of my list is the haworthia limifolia variegata.

What's even better is that there is not just one but 3 offsets. Sadly this is painfully slow and so I doubt I'll be able to remove them come spring and will have to wait until the following year before they are big enough to properly thrive.

I'm surprised by how far from the mother plant the offsets are - should I be?

I did! I also found out that seed really is fickle if not fresh and that they dislike having their roots disturbed.

No, the offsets for these form on very long stolons. I wouldn't be surprised if they wrap around the pot as well, they tend to snake out a long way.
