Buy stuff because I haven't heard of the name that is, I just don't seem to be able to resist, yet I know that the two biggest reasons for not knowing a plant are either A) its not worth growing or B) Its stupidly tender

This is the latest daft purchase Citharexylum spicatum label says "conservatory climber" Boring tender tree would be a better description!

We're all guilty of it! Sometimes it's blind optimism, other times sheer ignorance.

There is a third reason for never having heard of something - it is a real fusspot that needs constant love! Read Bauhinia under that heading - easy to germinate but a real pain in the butt to keep growing!

It is another one that used to be a Lippia.

My books give it as hardy to -3C [one source says defoliates at -3 and dies at -5C] [and give it its currently 'correct' name of Citharexylum ligustrifolium]. Rob Senior could grow it outside. Or gift it to Neil for Tremenheere?

I decided some time ago to only own up to seed that had actually germinated. I think similar discreation is needed on this thread or I could fill it with unwise impulse purchases!

I don't buy many plants these days but I can't resist buying or collecting seed. Even though my success rate with seed germination is poor I still have far too many pots of things lying around that I don't know what to do with but can't throw away. Anyone want a Ceiba pentandra, Doryanthes palmeri, Pleuropetalum darwinii or Arbutus menzeisii? :)

Surely like of will-power is a requirement for being on here. Pretty much every plant I buy is the last one for this year as I have no space until I actually star on the garden. Mind you I have at least managed to cut the buying down to plants on my wish list and not just those random ones you see and think look good.

I resolved to stop buying more plants some 500 or so plants ago ... and vow the same after bringing each one home :roll:

That's the stage I'm at and doing really well too, that's until I see yet another random plant that looks good. :roll:

I am very strict. I do only buy plants on my list. Problem is, my list is of all the plants I don't have!
Another downfall is end of season sales. half the stuff I buy hasn't a hope in hells chance of making through an average winter
