Scented mornings

Post by charlie »

Love this time of year, come down, open the door to let the dog out and am hit by a wall of scent from Honeysuckle (Belgica) Holboellia coriacea (flowering on later than usual) Hydrangea quelpartensis, Cordyline australis and just joining the party Dregea sinensis

Almost overwhelming, and I can see Jasminum simplicifolium is about to start as well :)

It's the lovely smell of Jasminum polyanthum that isdrifting into the house at the moment as it is planted on an east facing wall just outside the front door. It is more shaded but gets less wind than if it were on the south facing wall.

I have J polyanthum on a west wall but its not been a huge success, killed to the ground every time we get a hard winter, this year winter was mild and it looked unmarked but all the flower buds got frosted off! All very frustrating as I know loads of people growing it without effort, I could grow it under protection but then I find the scent a bit overwhelming. From reports on the forums it seems to have done better in the towns and cities
