PUSHING THE BORDERS

The hot and humid weather is here and the orchids love it.

Those are great flwoers. Do they grow wild there or are they imported?

Imported and cultivated - but they sell them off the back of a truck!!! Down south around Santo Domingo I believe there are huge orchid farms that grow plants to export to the USA. I assume ours come from there.

Are bromeliads popular as well, I guess your climate is perfect for them.

Bromeliads are available but not popular - mostly available across the garden wall! :) I haven't seen them for sale by the plant sellers but my ex-neighbour had quite a few different ones.

They truly are beauties.

I have 2 bromeliads - this is the large one which is handily in flower at the moment.


Even the piece that broke off in the high wind is trying to flower. And this one is the other that lives on a piece of driftwood in the baking sun, which accounts for its colour.

Amazing colour on those. A great display.

They need no effort at all - the perfect plant really!
