PUSHING THE BORDERS

I had finally got around to getting some planting into the new courtyard beds, as we were unsure what the growing conditions were going to be like I decided to experiment with the plants being "retired" from their pots in the conservatory so the plants used were not at their best and dragging stuff straight out of inside to out in early April is probably a stupid idea but I was desperate to have something green in there this year

So this the sunny side got Bougainvilla, Tibouchina (both urvilleana and heteromala) a couple of Pandorea jasminoides and Pandorea Golden Rain, The Mandevilla hybrid has been the least happy but both a pot full of Canna Panache and a Dahlia (From Andy) whose name begins with T! have loved it, various salvia and Pelagonium, so its well stuffed!

Planted in there but heading off is the Marsdenia, it really hated being in the conservatory

The other side is much more shady, here the main thing I wanted was a home for Lonicera calcarata but Have also tried Solly heterphylla some Begonia luxurians , Fuchsia boliviana, Cestrum Newellii , and Roldana petasitis (the purple leafed one) which has been annoying me in the conservatory ever since someone gave it to me! the Ferns and Lonicera etrusca survived the rebuild

Your courtyard is looking good Charlie. The Dahlia is 'tenuicaulis'.
Does the floor of the courtyard get much in the way of direct sun?

Yes Andy, since moving the wall back 5 feet its pretty hot and sunny, I took those pictures before 8 this morning. (and thanks for a reminder of the ID) I had no idea the Dahlia was going to get so big - it had been well behaved in a pot up to now!
If you ever need cuttings you know where to come!

Thanks for the offer but I have a new favourite tree Dahlai now, Dahlia aff. purpusii (from Crug). It is similar in appearance to D. tenuicaulis but more floriferous and last year flowered from late June to the first frost in December. Very easy from cuttings if you would like to try that one.
