Post by charlie »

Along with the new leaves on the trees I love the new fronds on all the ferns at this time of year

The new Dicksonia fronds are obscured by the old fronds for the first time here!

Yes my three DAs are going mad here now.
My ferns also kept last years leaves through winter and probably 90% of them unmarked but Im sure to the disgust of some (not that it worries me any) that I lopped the lot off a month ago, we are talking something like 120-150 fronds simply because I like to see the new croziers unfurling, it also lets loads of light back in for the Hostas and other plants that would be obscured.
The whole garden (well not exactly all  ) is bursting into life, theres tthe DAs, Trachys opening flower spathes, Tibouchina fully covered in buds and opening flowers already, Poppies coming out all over to name just a few.
About time too !
The only plants I cant get going are the big Brugmansias, too big for the greenhouse and not enough sun and heat to get them started, they spent winter in dark storage again and are in the whole nice and solid but hardly a bud.
