Pineapple Guava

Have picked and eaten these on Madeira I was determined to give it a go as the shrub seems to grow fine here and flowered every year, so following advice from various sources I bought 2 named fruiting cultivars

Planted them in the fruit cage against a south wall and sat back awaiting my crop of fruit, however although like the original seedling they flower lots and grow huge they seldom if ever set fruit. So where am I going wrong? I have even tried hand pollinating.

I did once get a small misshapen fruit in November one year but it disappeared before ripening

I can't help you from personal experience but I found this interesting link with information about pollinating Feijoas and feedback from other growers.

Thats really helpful Andy, seems like I have misunderstood the active part of the Stigma (I have been dusting the sides) I had no idea it was just the very tip will have a go today now its cooled down a bit
