My clump of Gladiolus tristis gets bigger every year, scent like wild honey suckle (according to my nose)

Does it run like G papilio?

Not to my knowledge Charlie. The larger bulbs produces dozens of babies which will throw up vey thin grass-like growth the following spring which makes the clump look like its growing in a lawn.
I think that this autumn i will lift the bulbs and clean off the babies before replanting.

I'm going to take that as a challenge :)

John has grown and flowered Gladiolus cardinalis from seed, so it isn't impossible.

Always a possibility! There's a chap round the conrer from here who might have a sucker going, if not I'll get back to you :)
