Kew trip

Post by Chrisg »

On a sunny day like today, it seemed a waste not to drop into Kew for a quick visit.

The Alpine section was looking good

My favourite yucca now has two heads and hopefully should start looking good again.

The succulent roundabout is not planted up yet and looks a bit different.

The grasses are all trimmed ready for summer

The walled garden is a bit behind but starting to grow.

The hostas are up, and unfurling

Quite liked this tulip.

The Princess of Wales house is my favourite ( no surprise there).

The Temperate house is being cleared ready for the works, it was strange to see it so clear.

One or two other people had the same idea and I have never seen queues like this at all the gates. Thankfully we were on our way out.

Thanks for posting Chris, great pictures.

I'll be there in a couple of weeks. Sad to see the Temperate House looking so sparse, but it has to be done. I hope they get in done in record time.

Thanks for that Yellow Aurea Brugmansia picture, what a sight!

Wayne, the brugs section wasn't as cleared out as I expected, I don't know if they hadn't got there yet or what. There were only a couple in flower though.

Particularly like the first pic (Arisaema) and (what I think are) the two Bromeliads at the end of part two.
Looks hellish busy judging by the queue

Is Kew your "local"? Mine is Oxfords botanic gardens.

yes they are bromilaids in the bottom row of the second set.

It was not too bad when we arrived, but by the time we left it was getting busy and never seen anything like the queues at all 4 gates. I dread to think what it was going to be like in there as it was only 11.30 when we left. It is only 10 minutes away, so we pop in for a few hours to make the most of it.

Have to ask the obvious question - how much is a season ticket?

LongK, Kew tickets are more expensive if you buy from Kew direct. Your best option is to join Oxford Botanic gardens for about £25 and that gives you unlimited free admission to kew. You can alos do what I and a couple of other do. Join Hillier gardens and get the same deal but a pound cheaper ;) Oxford would be the better deal for me as I do visit the gardens each year but I have never been to The harold Hillier Gardens.
