Madeiran plant identified

Post by charlie »

I have seed of this germinating but have no idea what it is, it was in an area near the Trout farm which is deliberately planted up with natives so is likely to something from the island

Edit
Michael Benedito thinks this is Teucrium abutiloides which appears to have small orange flowers. I have lots of small seedlings so if anyone passing fancies a go just ask!!

OK;

I'm stuck.

The leaves look like a Salvia or a Perricalis, but the fruit match neither.

Were they true berries? Or a drupe?

What sort of size are the leaves; and the whole plant?

Is it a sub shrub or scandent or a climber?

Was it aromatic when bruised?

Amy other clues?

Chad.

I knew it was a long shot, looks like I will be re visiting the trout farm yet again!

[quoteWere they true berries? Or a drupe? Don't remember, berries I think

What sort of size are the leaves; and the whole plant? - Leaves 4" across and plants were around 4 feet high

Is it a sub shrub or scandent or a climber? - Sub shrub

Was it aromatic when bruised? - No idea

Amy other clues? A lot of the plants were labeled, these were not, so its possible that they had arrived rather than been planted

Thanks for letting us know. I'd never have got to that from those fruit, but checking pictures it looks right.

And he should know!
